Do You Wear The Same Pair Of Shoes Everyday?
Written by Rebecca | Published: 25-01-2012

It's an easy thing to do, particularly if you have that favourite pair or only have one pair of smart shoes for work, but experts are warning that wearing the same pair of shoes everyday could be detrimental to your foot health.

Your feet will be producing an average of one eggcup of sweat per day, and if you wear the same pair of shoes the next day your shoes won't have had time to dry out. This can lead to fungal infections such as athlete's foot due to the damp, moist environment in which you are keeping your feet everyday, a breeding ground for bacteria.

Speaking about these latest health warnings, consultant orthopaedic foot and ankle surgeon at Liverpool's Bone and Joint Centre, Chris Walker, had this to say: “Damp skin is more prone to infection because fungi grow most easily in warm, wet conditions.”

Whilst Mike O'Neill from the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists added; “It takes 12 to 18 hours for shoes to dry out after you've worn them, so you should alternate your shoes each day.

Most women have a few pairs of shoes but men wear the same ones straight for six months...It's the equivalent to wearing the same underpants every day for six months and puts you at risk of fungal infections and smelly feet.”

Now ladies, if that's not an excuse to go out and buy at least one more pair of shoes I don't know what is!
